Max marks 60

Note: Attempt any 1 ques. every form parts A, B, C and D. part E is compulsory .

part A Marks 10 every

1. (a) Distinguish ranging from stochastic and deterministic systems giving suitable examples of every.
(b) Consider the movements of dust particles in air for this system:
(i) Which of the discrete or continuous simulation model would be more appropriate?
(ii) Draw a suitable dynamics system.

2. A simulation of a major traffic intersection in a city is to be conducted so as to suggest improper changes in regulating the flow of traffic on the feeder roads. give 3 iterations in increasing order of complexity of the subsequent 2 steps in simulation life-cycle:
(a) Formulate the issue
(b) Set objectives for the current iteration of simulation.

part B Marks 10 every

3. (a) elaborate the characteristics of a good random number generator?
(b) Draw flow chart for calculation of area bounded by y= exp(2x), the x-axis and vertical lines x = b and x = c by Mote- Carlo Method, when it is allowed to generate 2000 pairs of random numbers.

4. Draw a flow chart to generate random number that follow normal distribution with mean mu and the standard deviation sigma.

part C Marks 10 every

5. Jobs arrive at a batch processing computer centre at the rate of 24 per hour. Form the moment centre opens in the morning:
(a) How much time should the operator expect to elapse before the 1st job arrives?
(b) How much time should the operator expect to elapse before r jobs arrive?

6. What are analytic models? Why are they of interest in computer system performance evaluation?
part D Marks 10 every

7. What do you understand by GPSS? discuss with the help of a diagram.

8. write short notes on simulation of an autopilot.

part E Marks two every

9. (a) If X is normally distributed with mean s and standard deviation sigma, then y= exp(x) is distributed log normally. Outline the procedure for sampling y.
(b) Contrast the difficulties and compare the operated warehouse versus a model of an automated storage and retrieval system.
(c) There are 2 ways to represent time in simulation models:
(i) Fixed time increment approach, and
(ii) Variable time increment.
Which approach would you prefer for simulation of traffic at street intersection?
(d) What mechanisms can be applied to validate input-output transformations for a model? (4)
(e) Compare natural workload model and artificial workload model for representation of workload of an installation.
(f) Why are queuing models so applicable to operating systems? provide example.
(g) Why must 1 be careful when modeling certain volumes with random variables?
(h) List different techniques of system simulation.
