1(a) elaborate Miller Induces in a Crystal System?
(b) State the advantages of non-ferrous materials and alloys.
(c) Write a short note on brittle to ductile transition.
(d) explain about ceramic thermal Insulations.
(e) elaborate the requirements of materials of high conductivity?
(f) Identify difference ranging from ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials.
(g) State few factors which determine the mechanical behaviors of polymers.
(h) Write short note on 'Storage of Cement'.
(i) BaTiO3 is ferroelectric beneath 120 C but it is not ferro electrical beneath this temp. discuss why the change occurs.
(j) How will you classify 'Referectories'?

2. (a) What is the classification of Engg. materials based on their physical properties and applications?
(b) What do you understand by close packing in crystals? discuss briefly and find atomic packing fractions in
F.C.C. and B.C.C. crystals.
3. (a) What is a phase ? How do you find a phase diagram for an unknown system using cooling curves ?
(b) What is Gibbs phase rule ? discuss every term in brief.
4. What do you understand by crystal imperfections in materials? discuss them in detail.
5. elaborate ceramic Materials? State a few important ceramic materials with their properties and applications.
Also compare ranging from ceramic and non- ceramic phases.
6. explain about the dielectric materials, dielectrics constant, break-down voltages and dielectric losses.

7. What do you understand by Electro-optic effect in materials ? explain briefly about Kerreffect and Pockels Effect.
8. elaborate the important building materials? explain in detail about the classification, composition and qualities of
good bricks.
