BASIC SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES
B.Sc (IT) first Semester (2096)

Time: 3 Hours Max Marks:75

Note:
(a) Part A will be compulsory and have 15 short ans ques..
(b) Attempt any nine ques. from Part B.

Part A
1. Name the SI unit of electric current. What is its symbol.
2. Why do we sometimes use prefix with the SJ units.
3. What is the main difference ranging from basic and derived physical volumes.
4. A measurement of mass has been expressed as 1.779+.001 g. What is the name of factor + 001 g in this measurement.
5. Define the term “uniform acceleration”. provide 1 example of a uniformly accelerated motion.
6. Do action and reaction act on the identical body or various bodies. How are they related in magnitude and direction.
7. Why is it difficult to walk on a slippery road.
8. Explain how a rocket works.
9. State legal regulations of conservation of momentum.
10. Why does a gunman get a jerk on firing a bullet?
11. Which exert more friction – a liquid or gas why?
12. Can we walk if there is no friction- provide cause for your ans.
13. State 2 instances where friction is useful and 2 instances where friction is harmful.
14. How does friction decrease the efficiency of a machine.
15. How does the kinetic energy of a body depend on its (i) mass (ii) velocity.

Part B
1.
a. On a level road, a scooterist applies brakes to slow down from a speed of 10m/s to 5m/s – If mass of the scooterist and the scooter be 150 kg, compute the work done by the brakes.(Neglect air resistance and junction)
b. On What factors , Kinetic energy of a body depends.

2.
a. A boy weighing 50 kg climb up a vertical height of 900m. compute the amount of work done by him. How much potential energy does he gain.
b. What happens to the potential energy of the body when its height is doubled?

3.
a. State and discuss legal regulations of conversation of energy with an example.
b. State relationship ranging from watt and horse power.
c. A trolley is pushed along a road with force of 400 N through a distance of 60m in one minute. compute the power developed.

4.
a. On a 120 Km track, a train travels the 1st 30 Km at a uniform speed of 30km/h.How fast must the train travels the next 90 Km so as to avg. 60 Km/h for the entire trip.
b. What do you understand by the term “uniform motion” and “non-uniform motion”. discuss with the help of an example.

5.
a. A car acquires a velocity of 72km/h in 10 seconds starting from rest. obtain (a) the acceleration (b) the avg. velocity and (c) the distance traveled in this time.
b. Deduce the expression for distance traveled by the body moving with uniform acceleration in a provided time.

6.
a. What is meant by angular velocity. provide a relation ranging from linear speed and angular velocity of a body moving along a circular path.
b. The angular velocity of a scooter wheel is 20rad/s. If the diameter of a scooter wheel be 40 cm. compute the speed of the scooter in m/s.

7.
a. For how long should a force of 100N act on a body of 20 Kg so that it acquires a velocity of 100m/s.
b. Explain how Newton’s 2nd legal regulations of motion can be used to describe the unit of force. Name the unit.

8.
a. A gun of mass three Kg fires a bullet of mass 30 g. The bullet takes 0.0035 to moves through the barrel of the gun and acquires a velocity of 100m/s. Calculate:
i. the velocity with which gun recoils
ii. the force exerted on gun man due to recoil of gun.
b. If a man jumps out from a boat, the boat moves backwards. Why?

9.
a. Why does a meteor burn up on entering the earth’s atmosphere.
b. Why does a man slip when he accidentally steps on a banana skin.
c. Name 2 situations where the friction is deliberately increased.

10.
a. Where does a solid weigh more in air or in a liquid and why?
b. Is energy a vector volume. Explain?
c. Find the momentum of a body of mass 100 g having a K.E. of 20 j.

11.
a. The distance ranging from delhi and agra is 200 Km. A train travels the 1st 100 Km. at a speed of 50 Km/h.
b. Distinguish ranging from speed and velocity.

12.
a. Find the initial velocity of a car which is stopped in 10 seconds by appling brakes. The retardation due to breaks is 2.5 m/s.
b. A satellite goes round the earth in a circular orbit with constant speed. Is the motion accelerated.
