TEST-3 NOVEMBER 2008 SEMESTER VII
COURSE CODE: 07B7IEC401 MAXM. TIME: I 30 HRS.
COURSE NAME: CONTROL SYSTEMS
COURSE CREDIT: 3-1-0 MAXM MARKS: 30
Note: There are six questions. Answer all the questions.
1. Derive the equation of constant N-Circle for the closed-loop system with unity feedback with having G(s) as opeti-loop transfer function.
In the above, evaluate the centre and radius of circle N-circle at angular frequencies 1 and when transfer function G(s) * l/(s+2). |5]
2. Derive the expression of resonant frequency for the system whose overall transfer function is
C(s) _ aj
Also, conclate the resonant frequency with die damped natural frequency. (3)
3. Draw the Bode Plot for the following G(s) and also find the gain margin and phase margin
48<* + l0)
s{? +2.525 + 16X+20)
4. Skctch the root-locus plot for the following characteristic equation
is + 2 X*2 +4 s + 5)25 + K[s + l)0 and also determine the value of K at which the system becomes unstable. (5)
5. The open-loop transfer function of a unity feedback is given bv G(s) =-
s(7j +1)
where K and T are positive constants. By what factor should the amplifier gain K be reduced so that the peak overshoot of unit-step response of system is reduced from 75% to 25%. [4]
6. (a) Describe second method of the tuning of P1D controller.
(b) Discuss the benefit of using PLCs over traditional methods. (3+2)
