Q 3 (a) Design a butt-joint to connect two plates 240 * 12 mm using M20 bolts. Arrange the bolls to give maximum efficiency. f2J
(b) Design a double-covcr butt-joint to connect two plates each 12 mm thick to transfer a load of 450 kN Also calculate the efficiency of the joint. [3J
Q 4 Design a fillet weld to join a tension member consisting of two ISA 100 * 75 * 8 mm to a gusset plate 12 mm thick. The tensile load to be transferred is 280 kN. f5J
