1) Answer any 4 questions: (4×4)
a) Explain polymorphism and provide a few examples.
b) Explain with example – how adsorption and crystal growth destabilize the drug products.
c) Explain the terms – 'Expiry date' of 'Overage'. How will you estimate overage of a multi-vitamin preparation?
d) Briefly define different approaches to be followed for protection of hydrolytic/solvolytic degradation of dry products.
e) What are buffered isotonic solutions? What is their role in pharmaceutical preparation?
f) Derive the buffer formula for a weak base and its salts.

2) Answer any 2 questions: (8×2)
a) Define various densities of powders/granules. explain the experimental method for determination of any 1 of them.
b) Discuss the principle and method involved in estimation of particle size in a powder using Andreasen apparatus.
c) How can flow properties of powders be improved? Also discuss the terms – porosity, and packing arrangement of powders.

3) Answer any 2 of the following: (8×2)
a) Discuss, with examples, applications of interfacial phenomenon in pharmacy.
b) What is HLB and how is it calculated? Also classify surfectants on HLB scale.
c) Write a note on electrical properties of interface.

4) Answer any 2 of the following: (8×2)
a) What is thixotropy, how is it measured? And what is the role of thixotropy in formulations?
b) Explain non-Newtonian kinds of flow with suitable examples.
c) How do you choose a viscometer to study the rheology of fluids? define the principle and working, in brief, of any 1 viscometer.

5) Answer any 4 of the subsequent (short notes): (4×4)
a) Classification of association colloids with examples of every kind.
b) Wetting of solids by liquids and its applications.
c) Bancroft and Davies Theories in emulsions.
d) Definition of emulsions and their classification.
e) Ideal properties of suspensions.
f) Gold number and structured vehicles.
