Instructions: 1) Answer all the questions.

SECTION - A

1.    Put the following jumbled sentences in the correct logical order in a paragraph : 5

i)    It is kept below the tongue far about 3 minutes.

ii)    He takes out the thermometer from its tube and shakes down the column of mercury.

iii)    He reads the temperature.

iv)    He places the thermometer inside the patient's mouth.

v)    The doctor takes out the thermometer from the mouth.

2.    Identify the topic sentence and the four supporting sentences.    5

The Television renders invaluable service in the lieid of education. Educational Programmes are prepared by experts. They are telecast for the benefit of the students. The U.G.C. Programmes telecast in our country need special mention. They are not only informative, but also interesting. Students learn a lot from these programmes. Quiz competitions are conducted among schools and colleges. They help the students to improve their knowledge in different walks of life.

3.    Write a paragraph of not more than 200 words on how environmental pollution affects our health.    5

You have been appointed the Secretary for literary activities in your College. Write a paragraph of about 150 words on how you organised the inter-collegiate debate competition conducted by your college.

A device that calculates or manipulates data in some way is a computer. Thus, adding machines, pocket calculators, abacuses are examples of computers. Today, however, the term computers generally refers to an electronic device that can manipulate data at high speed, with great accuracy and through complex series of steps without human direction. The heart of such a computer consists of electronic components such as transistors and integrated circuits. Computers can perform millions of complicated mathematical calculations in seconds. They can also be used to produce printed texts at blinding speeds, draw complex pictures and control manufacturing processes~Tn medicine, computers have revolutionised many aspects of diagnosis and treatment. In business, they have relieved workers of boring, repetitive tasks and they have performed those jobs better and faster.

Answer any two of the following questions:    (2x10=20)

1.    What kind of news do you find in Newspapers ? Discuss this aspect with reference to the Newspaper that you read.

2.    Comment on the utility value or usefulness'of Radio and Newspapers.

3.    Comment on how the Internet is changing the communication habits of people in modern times.

4.    Discuss the influence of Television on the younger generation in India.

5.    With reference to Television, what is prime time and why is advertising during prime time more expensive ?

6.    Why do industries advertise their products and services in print and electronic media ? How does it help the Industries ?

   Transport facilities.
