Mahina,to take his turn and I slept.I woke up suddenly and I fancied I saw something more
little way off among the bushes.I obtained the man-eater,cautiously stalking us.
The ground was fairly open round our tree.It was a fascinating sight to watch the man-eater
stealing stealthily round us.His skill showed that he was an old hand at the terrible game of
man-haunting.So I determined not to loose him. When he came quite close to me,I fired at his
chest. But unfortunately it had no knock-down effect. With a fierce growl he escaped.
At dawn,we set out to hunt him down.I took a native tracker with me.Mahina followed me.
Splashes of blood helped in to get along quickly.Suddenly a fierce warming growl was heard in
front of us.I saw the man-eater coming towards us through the bushes. At once I fired at him.
Instantly he sprang out.I fired again and he moved towards us to attack in that crippled
condition.I could not get my a different rifle immediately to fire at him.Mahina, with the carbine
was already up on the tree.I too followed him without loss of time to save myself.
The lion started to limp back into the thicket.Suddenly,I seized the carbine from Mahina and
fired at him.He fell down motionless.Rather foolishly,I scrambled down and walked towards him
