Ladies and gentlemen, I am going to speak about Chickungunya, a strange and complex disease which has been tormenting people of many Indian states. It is a viral disease which is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This is not connected with the bird flu.

Symptoms of Chickungunya include fever, severe , arthritis, swelling of joints and body pain. Aedes aegypti is a daybiter. They breed in stagnant water which is collected for more than a week.

All of you are required to take some precautions to avoid breeding of the mosquitoes and the spreading of diseases. You should not allow water to be stagnant for more than a week in any type of container. As the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are day-biters, you must use mosquito nets / repellents while sleeping during day time.
