2nd Semester 2002-2003
Mid-Semester Test
(EC-2 Regular)
Course No. : ES ZC261
Course Title : Digital Electronics and Microprocessors
Nature of examination : Closed Book
Weightage : 40%
Duration : two Hours
Date of examination : 23/02/2003 (AN)

Note : Attempt all the ques.. begin every ans from a fresh page.

Q. 1. Solve the subsequent such that the complement of the L.H.S. funct ion = R.H.S.
function
(a) AB C D C D A B C D CD
(b) A B C D E AC E BC E DE
[2 + two = 4]

Q. 2. Simplify the subsequent Boolean function together with don’t care conditions ‘d’.
d A, B, C, D 3, 5, 7, 14
F A, B, C, D 1, 4, 6, 12, 15
Also show the NAND realization for the expression found.
[3 + one = 4]

Q.3. (a) describe combinational logic circuit.
(b). Implement the subsequent Boolean funct ion with a mult iplexer
F A, B, C, D 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14 with D as MSB.
[1 + four = 5]

Q. 4. Design a MoD-5 synchronous counter to count in the sequence 0,2,4,6,7,0.
The counter should begin from 0 for any of the unused state encountered. Use
J- K flip-flop and logic gates as needed.
[2 + three + two = 7]

Q. 5. Prove the subsequent Boolean algebra
(a) ABC ABC A BC ABC AB AC BC
(b) A B A B A C AC
(c) AC ACD ABC BCD AC BCD
[2 + one + one = 4]

Q. 6. Draw the waveforms for Q and F for the circuit shown in figure one beneath w.r.t 5
cont inuous rising clock pulses (Assume there is no delay for either flip- flop or
gates and F = Q = 0 initially). Write the logic formula which relates F and Q.
[2 + two + one = 5]

Q.7. (a) Realize the function F A B C using three two-input NAND gates only. (2)
(b). Match List - I with List - I I and choose the accurate ans by writ ing codes
only. [0.5 x four = 2]
List – I List – II
(A) Multiplexer (1) Sequential Memory
(B) De-Multiplexer (2) Converts decimal number to binary
(C) Shift – Register (3) Data Selector
(D) Encoder (4) Routes out many data output with single input
(c). Draw the circuit diagram of a 3-bit serial in serial out shift register using
‘D’ flip- flops. Using funct ion table show how bits 010 is shifted through
this register. [1 + one = 2]

Q. 8. discuss briefly the address bus, data bus and cont rol bus of an 8085
microprocessor. For what purpose these buses are used? [3 + two = 5]
