Q.1 (a) Using an example, discuss how production schedule can consider

(i) Priority of jobs

(ii) Unforeseen situations like breakdown of machines, non-availability of raw material

(iii) Utilization of machines (3)



(b) What makes the difference when you try to use forward scheduling and backward scheduling in an organization? Which 1 would you prefer under what circumstances. discuss with an example. (3)

(c) A work center has the subsequent open and planned orders for week 4. compute the total standard time needed (load). (4)

Q.2 (a) Do you think critical ratio can be computed by considering other criteria in scheduling? If so specify and define the criteria under which you will consider them. (3)



Q.2 (b) Parent S requires 3 of component T and 2 of components U. Both T and U are run on work center 30. Setup time for T is seven hours, and run time is 0.1 hours per piece. For component U, setup time is eight hours, and run time is 0.2 hours per piece. If the rated capacity of the work center is 120 hours, how may Ts and Us should be produced in a week? (6)

Q.3 (a) It has been stated that the purchasing agent who tries to be his own lawyer has a fool for a client. If this is true, why do purchasing men study commercial law? explain. (4)



Q.3 (b) If you are a purchasing executive and your boss asked you to provide business to a specific firm, how would you handle the situation? (You know this firm is slow in deliveries and is partly owned by your boss.) If he indirectly ordered to buy from a specific supplier, what would you do? (4)



Q.3 (c) Do you agree with the statement “A highly legalistic approach to purchasing is both unnecessary and unprofitable”? Justify your ans. (3)



Q.4 (a) Do you agree with this statement “Forecasts are usually wrong. Forecasts attempt to look into the unknown future and, other than by sheet luck, will be wrong to a few degree. Errors are inevitable”. Justify your ans. (4)



Q.4 (b) The old deseasonalized forecast is 100 units, a = 0.2, and the true demand for the last month was 130 units. If the seasonal index for the last month is 1.2 and the next month is 0.9, calculate:



(i) The deseasonalized true demand for the last month.

(ii) The deseasonalized forecast for next month using exponential smoothing.

(iii) The forecast of true demand for the next month. (6)
