A serious issue that modern civilisation
faces today is the wild, disorderly nature of
its traffic.
The haphazard growth of cities and towns
has led to roads and lanes of varied width ;
and these criss - cross 1 another, sometimes
ending up in a labyrinthine maze from which
one obtains it difficult to extricate oneself.
When a road is laid connecting 2 distant
points in an area, thought must be provided to
the nature of the vehicles that would ply on
it and the quantity of traffic that 1 expects.
Enough attention must also be provided to
providing paths on either side of the road for
pedestrians. Pedestrians resort to jay walking
largely because there is no pavement worth
the name to walk on ; and where 1 does
exist, often it is blocked by vendors, cattle
and what not.
a different point that requires attention is
the areas through which the roads and lanes
would pass. If it is a purely residential area,
the traffic on it must be so regulated as to
minimise accidents. Wherever traffic is heavy
and traffic jams or hold - ups a common
feature, fly - overs must be built to ensure
smooth flow of traffic. The traffic could also,
be regulated by restricting the passage of
bullock - carts and like carriages on busy
roads and by making certain zones 1 way.
Good traffic management ensures swift
flow of traffic with zero accidents. Those
who possess fast - moving vehicles such as
cars and lorries must reach their destination
quickly. At the identical time, they should not
expose themselves to, nor be the reason of
accidents.
