AR336 - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN -V

 

Duration : 12 Hours. Max. : 100 marks.

First Day = 6 Hours

Second Day=3 +3 Hours.

 

Instruction to the candidates

 

1.                  Answer any ONE Question.

2.                  Candidates are to submit the concept at the end of the first day and will not be return to the candidates.

3. Candidates are to retain a copy in the examination hall for next days reference.

4. Deviation from the concept will not be permitted.

5. Drawing sheets, tracing sheets and butter paper will be provided for the examinations.

6. Reference books, standards and design manual are not permitted in the Examination hall.

7. General drawing requirement applicable for both question A or B.

QUESTION A SHOPPING COMPLEX

 

Introduction A shopping complex is to be constructed on a busy shopping area of Chennai city classified as commercial use zone by CMDA. The building is to respond to the modern expression of commercial built form along with the user requirement like changing needs of shop owner (in terms of display technique, interior details and layout). Also to consider the behavioral pattern and shopping preference of the consumers. Apart from shopping activities, support functions like restaurant and play areas and service area to be provided. The complex also is to respond to the structural system and service integrations.

 

Site The site of 70m x 50m is located on a road junction, with North South axis lying on the longer side of the site. The Western end of the site faces 45m wide road and Southern end of the site faces 30m wide road.

 

Guidelines The proposed building is situated in the Commercial use zone as per the CMDA classification the guidelines as per the CMDA development control rules are as follows

 

Maximum FSI 1.5

Maximum plot coverage 65 percent

Minimum plot frontage 7.0m

Maximum height One and half times the width other abutting road provided that the height may exceed to the extent of one metre for every 30cm by which the building is set back from the street or 15 metres whichever is less.

 

Minimum Front setback Abutting road width set back

 

         Above 30.0m 6.0

         Above 15m but less 4.5m

Than 30.0m

 

Minimum side setback th height of the building subject to a minimum of 2m of either side.

 

Minimum rear setback th height of the building subject to a minimum of 2m.

Packing standards

         Floor area upto 50sq.m = Nil

         Floor area upto 50sq.m = 1 car space below 100 sq.m

         For every additional = 1 car space 50 sq.m or part there of exceeding 100 sq.m

Parking dimension: 5m x 2.5m per parking bay with min. one way drive way of 3.5m and min. two way drive way of 7.2m

 

Design requirement

Areas mentioned are in sq.m and are approximate. Where area is not given, candidates are expected to work out areas themselves on the bases of the usage pattern

Essential commodities 25% of total building area

Restaurant, play area 10% of total building area

Gallery, public spaces 5% of total building area.

QUESTION - B CLUB HOUSE DESIGN

 

Introduction Man is the nucleus to the society-taking role in various stages, various sections with vigor and passion. And for him at times it is inevitable to take a break and indulge in leisure activities to satisfy his basic needs of relaxation, recognition in society and recuperate. Hence the clubhouse design is to inculcate the appropriate ambience with qualitative aesthetic environment to make the user relax both mentally physically.

 

Site The 13acre site for Clubhouse is located at contour layout in a hill station. The eastern end of the site overlooks a valley with a narrow stream at the lower part of the contour and the southern part of the site has range of hills banking the site line. Consideration to site in terms of vegetation, climate topography, drainage pattern etc. are to be observed in design of the Clubhouse. Also various vantage points in term of landscape elements, aesthestic viewpoint and visibility can be exploited to make the design more contextual and realistic.
