PART A (10 x 2 = 20 marks)
1. What is a primitive cell? Give and example.
2. Name few techniques of crystal growth from melt.
3. A copper wire of 3 m length and 1 mm diameter is subjected to a tension of 5N.
Calculate the elongation produced in the wire if the Young’s modulas of copper is 120 GPa.
4. State Newton’s law of cooling.
5. Find the lowest energy of the electron confined to move in a one dimensional box of
length 1Å.

6. Write the principle of transmission electron microscope.
7. State WeberFechner law.
8. Are ultrasonic waves electromagnetic waves in nature? Explain.

communication systems.

(ii) Copper has fcc structure and its atomic radius is 1.273Â.
