4. A manufacturer requires 2000 units of an item per annum. The cost of placing an
order is Rs. 10 per order and inventory carrying cost is 16% per year per unit of
avg. inventory. The purchase price is Re. one per unit on the volumes beneath
1000 units. A discount of 5% is offered if the item is purchased in lots of 1000 units
or above and there is a 7% discount if the whole annual requirement of 2000 units
is purchased in a single lot. obtain the economic order volume and the number of
orders to be placed in a year.
