1 (a) Distinguish ranging from combinational and sequential circuits.
(b) What is a Flip-Flop? Construct a 4-bit shift register using Flip-Flops.
Or
2. (a) discuss the difference ranging from fixed point and floating point representation with
examples.
(b) discuss how a parity bit can be used as an fault detection mechanism.
Unit – II
3. (a) What is Instruction Cycle? discuss its operations through a Flow Chart.
(b) Explainhow the basic computer provides timing and control?
Or
4. (a) Write micro operations for Fetch Cycle.
(b) Write micro operations for execution cycle of the subsequent instructions:
(i) ADD B
(ii) LDA A
(iii) STA A
Unit – III
5. (a) Write an assembly language program for basic computer to obtain the largest of 10
numbers stored in the memory.
(b) What is an Assembler? discuss the role of Assembler Directives.
Or
6. discuss how the address sequencing takes place in micro programmed control unit.

7. (a) A computer has 32-bit instructions and 12-bit addresses. If there are 250 two-
address instructions, how many one-address instructions can be formulated?
(b) discuss how the effective address is evaluated in respect of the subsequent
addressing modes:
(i) Direct (ii) Indirect
(iii) Relative (iv) Indexed
