5]    Preferably, write the answers in sequential order.

Q.l. (A) Attempt any SIX of the following:    12 Marks

a.    Name four materials used to make flat belts.

b.    Write the function of Rack & Pinion pair and mention an example where it is used.

c.    Draw neat sketch of Gib Head Key and mention its two proportions.

d.    Write two functions of cage in rolling element bearing.

e.    Draw neat sketch of snap or cup head rivet or conical head rivet mentioning it's proportions.

f.    Draw neat sketch of epicyclic gear train.

g.    Write the use of wing compass and trammel point in sheet metal work.

h.    What is the meaning of spring back in bending and what is the remedial action for

it?

<B) Attempt any TWO of the following:

a. Name the type of gears used for following situations:-

i)    Two parallel shaft

ii)    Two shaft which are intersecting

iii)    Skew shafts to get high velocity ratio

iv)    Non- parallel, non intersecting shafts running at high rotations per minutes.

Sketch any one pair of these.


b.    Draw neat sketch of a protected type of flanged coupling. Mention the advantages of projection.

c.    Explain steps in working of three roll, pyramid bending machine used to make a cylindrical shell.

Q.2 Attempt any FOUR of the following:    16 Marks

a.    In a gear train, gear A running at 1200 r.p.m clockwise, drives gears B and C. Gears C and D are on the same shaft and D drives gear E. Number of teeth on each gear are as follows:-

A - 24 T. B-36 T, C-48 T. D-20 T and E-40 T. Calculate the r.p.m of Gear E and B. Draw a sketch of this gear train.

b.    Compare Journal bearing with rolling bearing with respect to i) Noise

ii) Axial compactness iii) Load axial or thrust and iv) bearing failure

c.    Mention two faults that occur in pipe bending and mention steps to avoid them.

d.    Draw neat sketch with proportioas in terms of diameter d' of

i) Tee headed bolt and ii) lifting eye bolt.

e.    Write the uses of i) fast and loose pulley and ii) Jockey pulley. Draw neat sketch of anyone.

f.    With a neat sketch and explain U- bending process using die and punch.

Q.3 Attempt any FOUR of the following:    16 Marks

a.    In a flat, open belt drive joining pulleys of 600mm and 300mm diameters respectively, centre distance between the shafts is 2 meter. Neglecting belt thickness, calculate length of the belt.

b.    What is a sunk key? What are its types? Draw neat sketch of a sunk key with its proportions and mention where it is used.

c.    Draw neat sketch of any two: i) A static seal ii) an oil seal iii) a gasket.

d.    Compare TIG and MIG welding with respect to i) electrode used ii) process iii) sizes of plates welded iv) area of their application.

e.    With a neat sketch explain spot welding process. Mention areas it's applications. Write the formula for heat generated during this process.

f.    What is mean by Ferrous & non Ferrous metals. Write properties of Ferrous & Non Ferrous Metals.



Q.4 Attempt any TWO of the following:    16 Marks

a.    Shafts A and B are 800nim apart, have two identical three stepped pulleys' having step diameters 400mm , 280mm and 150mm. Shaft A runs at ISOOr.p.m. Calculate three possible speeds of shaft B. Calculate flat belt length, neglecting belt thickness. Draw neat sketch of this arrangement.

b.    Draw neat sketch showing two spur gear teeth and indicate at least eight terms. Define module' and diameter pitch'.

c.    Draw neat sketch of submerged arc welding'. Explain the process, mentioning it's applications.

Q.5 Attempt any FOUR of the following:    16 Marks

a.    With a neat sketch explain the working of Hooks joint of universal coupling. Mention one area where it is used.

b.    Draw neat sketch and write use of i)Prick punch ii) Straight blade snip iii) Half moon stake iv) Flat chisel used in sheet metal work.

c.    Sketch a dished area showing its two radii and explain its manufacturing process, in brief.

d.    Explain the process of cold bending of pipes, done manually. Sketch the fixture or equipment used.

e.    Draw a neat sketch of double riveted, double strap, zigzag riveted, butt joint. Indicate its proportions with respect to diameterd' of rivet.

Q.6 Attempt any FOUR of the following:    16 Marks

a.    Draw neat sketch of ball bearing and label its main four elements and parts. What care is taken while fitting a ball bearing over a shaft?

b.    Draw neat sketches of weld edge preparations for butt welds of plates i) 6 to 8mm

ii) 8 to 10mm iii) 10 to 15mm iv) 15 to 25mm thickness by oxy-acetylene gas welding.

c.    Write four disadvantages of riveting as regards strength, surface, process and cost?

d.    Write four advantages of rolling contact bearing as regards friction, compactness, load and maintenance.

e.    Explain working of gas welding torch with a neat sectional view of it.

f.    Draw welding symbols of i) Single U butt ii) Double V butt iii) Single fillet weld and

iv) Spot weld
