e.    What is a G. I. pipe?

f.    What is the function of the pump?

g.    Give application of Gear pump.

h.    What do you mean by vacuum?

(B) Attempt any TWO of the following:    08 Marks

a.    Draw a neat diagram of an Inclined tube manometer and write expression to

calculate pressure drop.

b.    Give concept of viscosity and derive Newtons law of viscosity.

c.    Write down the pressure range developed by faa blower and compressor.

a.    Derive an expression to calculate pressure drop by a U- tube manometer.

b.    Define and name one Newtonian and one Non- Newtonian fluid.

c.    State equation of continuity.

d.    Volumetric flow rate of water is 1000 nvVhr. How much is the mass How rate in kg/hr.

e.    Draw a schematic diagram of a Gate valve.

f.    Differentiate Laminar flow and Turbulent flow on following point:

d.    Draw a neat sketch of the following pipe fittings and give their specific applications

f.    What is Non Return Valve? Name any type and its specific application.

Q.4 Attempt any TWO of the following:    16 Marks

a. 6 litres per minute of Toulene is flowing through a pipe of 1.2 cm i.d. pipe. If the density of Toulene is 0.87 gm/cm3. Calculate

i.    Volumetric flow rate in cm3/sec

ii.    Mass flow rate in gm/sec

iii.    Average velocity in cm/sec

iv.    Mass velocity in gm/sec.cnr


b. Kerosene is flowing from tank A to tank B as shown in the fig. Density of kerosene is 0.816 gm/cm3. Calculate velocity of kerosene at point C for the following conditions.

i)    Tank A and tank B both are at atmospheric pressure and there is no frictional loss in the connecting pipeline and no pump is used.

ii)    Tank A at atmospheric pressure and tank B at 1.2 atmospheric pressure. Frictional loss of 0.25 kgf/kg and no pump is used.

c. Water is being pumped from a large reservoir resting on floor at the rate of 5 m3/hr to an open tank of an absorption tower through a 50 mm i.d. pipe. The point of discharge is 6 m above the floor and frictional losses in the entire system is 0.25 kgf-m/kg. At what height in the lower reservoir the water be kept if the pump can develop

0.1 hp.

b.    How pressure is developed in a reciprocating pump?

c.    Write note on :

i)    Air Binding

ii)    Priming.

d.    Describe the working of Steam Jet ejector.

e.    How calibration of an Orifice meter is done in a laboratory?

f.    A Venturi meter placed in 75 mm diameter horizontal pipe has a throat diameter of 25 mm. Determine the flow rate through the pipe in lit/mia when venturi head is 41.2 cm of water. Assume discharge coefficient to be 0.77.
