Course Code : AA Semester : Fifth

Subject Title : Design of R.C.C. Structure -1 Marks : 100

12557

Time: 3 Hours.

Instructions:

1.    All questions are compulsory.

2.    Illustrate your answers with neat sketches wherever necessary.

3.    Figures to the right indicate full marks.

4.    Assume suitable data if necessary.

5.    Preferably, write the answers in sequential order.

Q. 1 A) Attempt any THREE of the following:    12 Marks

a)    Write the difference between working stress and limit state method.

b)    Write the assumption made before design of R.C.C. beam

c)    Determine the design constant for depth of Neutral axis of the beam having width b and

effective depth d and steel fe 415 and concrete ml5

d)    What are the different causes of earthquake.

Q. 1 B) Attempt any ONE of the following:    06 Marks

a)    A R.C. beam of rectangular section 230mm wide and 400 mm deep is reinforced with 4

bars of 12mm diameter provided with an effective cover of 31 mm calculate the ultimate moment of resistance of the section and the maximum uniformly distributed super imposed load this beam can carry it is simply supported over a span of 3.5 m The material used are concrete grade m20 and steel grade fe 415.

b)    A singly reinforced beam of concrete grade m25 has to resist an ultimate moment of 90

kn-m. Design the section using 0.9% steel of grade fe 415. Assume the width of the beam equal to 250mm

Q.2 Attempt any FOL'R of the following:    16 Marks

a) Singly reinforced concrete beam 200mm wide and 40mm deep overall. Assume concrete mix m20 and fe 500 grade steel and effective cover equal to 40mm. Determine the maximum ultimate moment that beam can resist?

b)    Calculate the area of steel required for singly reinforced concrete beam 230mm wide and

390mm deep to resist an ultimate moment of 50kn-m. Assume m20 and fe 500 combination of concrete and steel and effective cover=40mm

c)    State any four I. S. provisions for singly reinforced beam design.

d)    Explain the term partial safety factor used in limit state method why are they called partial?

e)    Write the reasons to provide minimum shear reinforcement in the form of stirrups.

Q.3 Attempt any FOUR of the following:    16 Marks

a)    Span of beam is 4 m with uniformly distributed load of 22kn/m and c/s 230 X 450 mm.

Calculate spacing of stirrups use permissible ultimate shear stress in concrete is 0.6 N/mm2 ( Neglect Bent Up)

b)    Why the useful contribution to shear resistance of bent up bar is taken only 50% of the

total shear required to be carried.

c)    Write any four I.S. provisions for design of shear is beam.

d)    Explain the effect of shear force on the beam

e)    A Rectangular beam supported over the span of 5m is 250 mm wide X 450mm effective depth. It is reinforced with 0.75% tension steel. Determine the UDL including the self weight. The beam can carry when the beam is to be provided with minimum shear reinforcement. Use ml5 concrete.

Q.4 Attempt any THREE of the follow ing:    16 Marks

a)    Give the design steps for lintel beam.

b)    The R.C. beam 300 X 500mm having the span of 3.5 m and 5 no of 16 mm diameter

bars in bottom Determine the point load carrying at centre.

c)    Write the steps to analyze the shear in beam section.

d)    A beam 230 X 500 mm effective has a span of 4.5 m tensile reinforcement consists of

four 20 mm diameter bars. If concrete is of grade m 20, Find nominal shears stress and shear strength of concrete load on beam 24 KN / m pt    c c

1.00 0.62 1.2500 0.67 1.500 0.72

Q.5 Attempt any FOl'R of the follow ing:    16 Marks

a)    How to locate the epicenter of the earthquake.

b)    Write the method of recording intensity of earthquake.

c)    What are the provisions made for earthquake resistant structure.

d)    Write the causes of earthquake.

e) Write the importance of ductility in earthquake.

Q.6 Attempt any ONE of the following:    16 Marks

a)    Design a plinth beam to carry 230 mm thick brick masonry wall 3 m height. The beam is simply supported at its ends and as an effective span of 3.8m. Assume the weight of brick masonry equal to 18 kn/m\ Use concrete grade m20 and mild steel reinforcement.

b)    Design a cantilever beam of span lm having the parapet brick wall 230mm thick grade

of concrete ml5 and steel m.s. grade-I.
