4    (a) Read the following passage and answer the questions 5

that follow :

Charak was the first physician to present the concept of digestion, metabolism and immunity. According to him, a body functions because it contains three doshas, namely bile,, phlegm and wind. These doshas are produced when dhatus, namely blood, flesh and marrow, act upon the food eaten. For the same quantity of food eaten, one body produces dosha in an amount different from another body. That is why one body is different from another. Illness is caused when the balance among the three doshas in a human body is disturbed. To restore the balance he prescribed medicine.

His book charaksamhita remained standard work on the subject for two millenniums and was translated into many languages :

To avoid water crisis in the near future it is necessary that appropriate pohcies and schemes are formulated water conservation and its proper management can also be considered as one of the effective steps to avoid water crisis. India has a long tradition of water harvesting. Harvesting rainwater is one of the most effective ways to tackle the water crisis. The basic principle is, to collect the rain water where it falls, use it and let it seep into the ground. In this the Rash trap ati Bhawan is leading the way. It is one of the few buildings in Delhi that conserves rain water. Aizawl in Mizoram meets most of its water needs through roof top harvesting. In 1994 a law was promulgated for the residents of Chennai making it compulsory for new buildings to harvest rain water if they wanted municipal water connection.
